Iced, slushed and sugar-high

(Dec 28 2:42 p.m.)

Tis winter and a new year, and places have been closed for the holidays… due also to road conditions.  But the white stuff melted throughout winter.

Pre-bad path conditions. (Dec 23 10:00 a.m.)

Until it snowed again.  1.5″, and sleet and…

Bad path conditions. (Dec 28 4:15 p.m.)

…slush.  At its worst, the daily walk can become an obstacle course, sometimes with mini-lakes in the driveway, and sometimes with this kind of mixture you wouldn’t dare put your shoes in.  I’ve walked the sidelines… in the snow, instead of the path that’s… made so you don’t have to walk in the snow.

(Dec 28 2:42 p.m.)

I generally walk every day outside for sake of exercise, but there are days I can’t do much.  I could stand on the porch… fresh air.  And that’s if it’s not raining.  Being stuck indoors is neither fun nor healthy.

Snow pile, Deluxe Edition with leaves. (Dec 31 9:41 a.m.)
(Jan 3 4:01 p.m.)

Add another 3.5″ on the 3rd.  And no, I’m not talking 3.5″ floppy disks. … Not that you were thinking that. … Anyway.

(Jan 3 4:02 p.m.)

At least this new snow was fluffy; you could just plow it with a shovel in one go or two.  Clearing that, I could walk again… mostly.  The slush became ice.  But at least it wasn’t slush, right?

(Jan 3 4:11 p.m.)
(Jan 3 4:29 p.m.)

I was fortunate enough to be out at the right time to catch a sunset.

(Jan 3 4:21 p.m.)

The sun and sky refraction angle lit the clouds pink and orange.

(Dec 30 6:51 a.m.)

We got plenty of “comfort food” this Christmas.  Most of it was from aunt J.  And this is not all of it.  …Much of it had been eaten already… by me.  A year to try new things… I tried the fruitcake.

(Dec 20 7:07 a.m.)

My close friend who sent me the Santa ornament also sent a Himalayan salt lamp… Here, you can see it illuminating a Popcornopolis® bag I prematurely opened.  There isn’t much space to put new things.

(Jam’n 7 3:44 p.m.)

Days like Monday, I need some comfort food to fight the sub-freezing temperatures… and those little Kinnikinnick chocolate chip cookies can be like potato chips: addictive.  On warmer days, the clouds still ultimately decide what kind of precipitation is going to fall; the other day it was 37°F and snowing tiny, tiny flakes that melt the instance they land on something.

(Jan 7 3:45 p.m.)

This part of the path I shoveled is actually less slippery than the uneven slush-turned-ice.  At any rate, it was too cold that day and I’m too behind on things to stay out much longer.

(Jan 8 4:36 p.m.)

Today was maybe an inch of accumulation, plus some light rain.

Some of that Chex pattern going on again… (Jan 8 4:39 p.m.)
(Jan 8 4:45 p.m.)

All of the dark parts in the path, here, is ice.  Yeah.

(Jan 3 4:27 p.m.)

Well, that’s gonna do it for now.  A slow start for the year… but what days don’t go by too fast?  It’s already 2019!  There’s so much to discover out there, so little time. 🙂

Anyway, I hope your holidays have been fun and your new year is good.

Until next time…

  1. How are you doing, Adam? I was just looking through the pictures I have saved on my tablet, and a few of them are your pictures, because it makes me happy to look at them. And I thought, “It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a new post from my Maine blogging friend.” So I came here to check it out, because I follow over a hundred blogs and it’s too easy to overlook a post. I was thinking that I might have missed something. But you haven’t posted in almost two months? I’m a little concerned.

I know you do a lot more on Twitter than you do here. I have gotten away from Twitter. It gets too overwhelming for me.

Anyway, I am saying a prayer for you. Here’s a grandma ((HUG)) if you need one.

    1. As you now know, I’m a bit sick… Also, my subjects in photography have become redundant that I’ve lost a fair amount interest in posting. Who wants to see 2019’s version of the same seasons? I’m not excited with what I see outside, anyway. But I’m visiting new places— new life experiences and new photo opportunities. I’ll post an update.

Thanks for the prayer and hug. Much love back to you too 🤗
